Robert Buckle

Born in Tottenham on 17th October 1868 Robert Buckle is a name you will see time and time again at every move and with every decision.  His vision for a football club was beyond his years and his home address, White Cottage on White Hart Lane, was used as the clubs first headquarters.  From his bedroom a 14 year old Buckle would hand write the most beautiful invitations and send them out to those he wished to represent Hotspur FC.

Our glorious history deserves to be told!

The history of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is one of highs and lows much like any other club.  However, the highs have been forgotten somewhat in the modern day and it is the job of those with a keen interest in our history to ensure they are passed down to our younger supporters.

My name is Roy Beck.  I am passionate about our clubs history and reminiscing with supporters, old and new, about our wonderful past.  From the schoolboys who founded the club on the Tottenham High Road to the present day you will find this page full of information about the people who have made the club what it is today.

Born in Enfield in 1983 I have lived in Cheshunt, steeped in Spurs folklore, since 1991 and supported the club since 1992.

In 2023 I was honoured to have been asked by the club to research the official Legacy Numbers which were released in October 2023.  Following the completion of the project I founded the Tottenham Hotspur Grave Society with a clear objective - to find the final resting place of our heroes of yesteryear.  You can find out more on this page as we remember all those former players no longer with us.

Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur are a very knowledgeable bunch who know their history and this is not a new thing!  Associated with the club for almost 60 years Billy Harston was said to have had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the club from it's day on the Tottenham marshes.  Similarly Tom Morris with a 43 year career.

Two other gentlemen who deserve our eternal gratitude are Leslie Yates and Andy Porter.  These 2 historians were the font of all knowledge of the club who worked tirelessly on it's behalf spreading the word about our illustrious history.  Those who knew them spoke highly of their knowledge and their dedication to our club and their good work must be continued.
